WOW! A $366,000 grant means "Connector" construction can start!

The State Recreational Trails Grant, announced Tuesday, Oct. 10, by the Iowa Department of Transportation, brings the total raised to about $2 million for the 9-mile trail that will link the Raccoon River Valley Trail (in Perry) to the High Trestle Trail (in Woodward). It will allow the construction of the first 1.5 miles of the route in the 2018 season. This will eventually connect two of the most popular rec trails in the nation.

Celebrating 87th birthday with an 87-mile bike ride!

Bob Peterson, of Marshalltown, is an amazing bicyclist who is turning 87 years old. For his last 15 birthdays, he has celebrated by "riding his age" in miles. on "Bob's Birthday Bike Ride." The last 4 or 5 years, those have been on our Raccoon River Valley Trail. This Saturday, Sept. 30, he's leading another big group of friends on a birthday ride on the RRVT. Some will ride 87, some less. And you're all invited to ride along. Lunch & cake are at about noon at ToJo's in Jamaica!

Des Moines writer Betsy Rubiner and photographer Rachel Mummey have collaborated on an outstanding, 6-page cover story about the Raccoon River Valley Trail that is on the national trail advocacy organization's website and in its fall-edition magazine. Cowboy Sven's wild bull ride to raise money for "Connector" trail!

Talk about taking one for the team! Sven Peterson, city administrator for the City of Perry, is going to attempt to ride a wild bull during the Iowa Rodeo Cowboys Association championship rodeo on Friday, Sept. 8, at the Dallas County Fairgrounds arena in Adel. Per-second pledges and donations are being taken now for however long Peterson is able to stay on "Mudslinger," the bull. All proceeds go to help build the "Connector" trail from the Raccoon River Valley Trail to the High Trestle Trail.
